Petition request
That the House of Representatives amend its rules so that comments that are discriminatory against immigrant New Zealanders, such as those by Rt Hon Winston Peters and Hon Shane Jones on 28 January 2025, are no longer considered acceptable in Parliament’s rules.
Petition reason
I was so embarrassed when Shane Jones yelled “Send the Mexicans home” to a Mexican-born MP. If I did that at my work, my boss would tell me off. I might even lose my job. I would like Parliament to change its rules so something like that can’t happen again. I don’t think Parliament looks good when this sort of thing happens and I think that it should stop.
