That the House of Representatives urge the Government to 1) grant International Qualified Nurses (IQN) who have obtained their 2022 to 2024 NZ Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) a 3-year open work visa, and 2) limit the flow of IQN coming to New Zealand.
Petition reason
In our view: IQNs come to NZ to study for assessments to become qualified nurses in NZ; APC can only be used in NZ & is not honoured in other countries; IQNs are often on visitor’s visas and can face challenges in securing jobs as employers require a legal right to work; it would improve patient-nurse ratios & quality of healthcare; employers would be able to solve the short staffing of healthcare facilities; it may improve the workforce; and limiting numbers may ensure immediate employability.
