Petition request
That the House of Representatives establish legal protections for cognitive liberty, mental privacy, mental integrity, and psychological continuity against unauthorised access to, collection of, inference from, or alteration of neural activity.
Petition reason
Neurotechnology can increasingly record, analyse and interact with neural activity. UNESCO has identified risks to mental privacy, autonomy, freedom of thought, mental integrity and personal identity. I think New Zealand should review its laws and establish appropriate protections as these technologies develop. I believe this is much harder to dismiss as speculative because UNESCO itself has now adopted an international recommendation addressing the ethics and human-rights.
