Petition request

That the House of Representatives urges the Government to apply the same animal welfare standards to imported pork as is required by New Zealand pork producers.

Petition reason

At present, 60% of the pork products consumed by New Zealanders is imported. The vast majority comes from countries whose production practices would be illegal in New Zealand. With the same animal welfare applied to imported foods, Kiwis would have confidence that the pork products they consume meet New Zealand's high standards.
