Petition request

That the House of Representatives enact legislation requiring every member of Parliament to undergo random testing for illegal drugs no fewer than four times each calendar year, with the results of each test made publicly available.

Petition reason

Members of Parliament make and pass laws, including those prohibiting illegal drugs. I believe the public is entitled to proof that those who write and vote on these laws comply with them. Many New Zealanders already undergo regular workplace drug testing, and I believe MPs hold one of the highest positions of public trust. I believe regular scheduled testing with public results would strengthen transparency and apply accountability equally to every member, regardless of party.
