Petition request
That the House of Representatives affirm that the Treaty of Waitangi is the founding document of New Zealand as a nation; and recognise the "Littlewood Treaty" as the authoritative English text of the Treaty.
Petition reason
I consider: the final English text of the Treaty was completed on the afternoon of 4 February 1840; the document was then given to Henry Williams for Henry and his son to translate into the northern dialect of the Māori language; subsequent to the translation, the English text was made available to the American Consul for copying; copies were sent to Washington, but the original English text appears to have remained with the American Consul.
