Petition request
That the House of Representatives reject any proposals to remove, amend, or redefine references to Te Tiriti o Waitangi or its principles in legislation, and ensure that any legislative or constitutional changes affecting Te Tiriti involve genuine consultation with Māori and the public.
Petition reason
We regard Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the founding agreement of Aotearoa New Zealand. We believe that legislation should continue to recognise and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi as a guiding constitutional document and that Treaty clauses remain essential safeguards in government decision-making. In our view, changes of this significance should not proceed without meaningful consultation and engagement with Māori, including iwi, hapū, and whānau, as well as the wider public.
