That the House of Representatives reverse changes to diabetes and prediabetes diagnosis thresholds under Health New Zealand's National Diabetes Roadmap and urge the Government to consult more widely about treating diabetes through lifestyle and dietary strategies.
Petition reason
The new changes mean that 200,000 patients will no longer be recalled for HbA1c blood glucose tests and retinal screening can be delayed for three years. I believe this plan neglects long-term eye and kidney health, risking blindness, organ failure and worse. In my opinion, the Diabetes Roadmap cuts costs while delaying inevitable poor health outcomes for another day. I am concerned that certain healthcare professionals with expertise in diabetes were not consulted about the Diabetes Roadmap.
