That the House of Representatives cap the Prime Minister’s salary at five times the minimum wage and Ministers’ salaries at four times the minimum wage, ban housing allowances for MPs who own property in Wellington, and cap other housing allowances for MPs at three times the rate of the WINZ accommodation supplement.
Petition reason
Current rules allow MPs and Ministers to claim housing support that I don’t think ordinary New Zealanders would ever receive. I believe that linking political salaries to the minimum wage and tightening allowance rules would ensure fairness, restore trust, and prevent misuse of public funds.
