That the House of Representatives lift the ban on germline gene editing in certain circumstances, so that further funding can be allocated and research can take place regarding the possibility for the technology to treat genetic disease in humans.
Petition reason
Germline gene editing has the potential to treat, cure, or prevent genetic disease. I suggest that removing the ban would allow for funding and research into cures that would otherwise be unobtainable. I think an early intervention would prevent progressive damage of a disease from occurring, and that a successful edit to the single cell can permanently remove disease from future generations if done safely & thoroughly.
