That the House of Representatives urge the Government to establish a limited number of hereditary honours for exceptional and enduring service or achievement, with no political office, parliamentary membership, or other legal privilege attached.
Petition reason
New Zealand's honours system recognises exceptional service and achievement. We believe a small class of hereditary honours could recognise contributions of such lasting significance that recognition beyond one lifetime is appropriate. We consider such awards should be rare, merit-based and independently scrutinised, and should carry no political power or legal privilege. We propose consideration of up to five senior hereditary honours and ten lesser hereditary honours each year.
