That the House of Representatives urge the Government to express support for West Papuan self-determination.
Petition reason
West Papua has reportedly faced decades of conflict, human rights abuses and political marginalisation of indigenous Papuans since its integration into Indonesia in 1969. I think New Zealand should adopt a more interventionist approach and should use diplomatic pressure and international forums to advocate more strongly for human rights and West Papuan self-determination. I feel this would help West Papua, align with NZ’s commitment to human rights and strengthen its role as a Pacific leader.
