That the House of Representatives require employers hiring migrants on an Accredited Employer Work Visa to pay a minimum of 10% above the industry market rate.

Petition reason

I suggest that a 10% premium on work visas would prevent employers from using migrant labour as a cheaper alternative to domestic workers, protecting Kiwi jobs. When businesses choose overseas staff, I believe the state continues paying Jobseeker Support to locals without work. I argue that this premium would eliminate unnecessary welfare spending, stop local wage suppression, and create a financial incentive for companies to recruit, train, and upskill New Zealand citizens and residents first.
