Petition request

That the House of Representatives make Aotearoa New Zealand the official name of the Country.

Petition reason

Te Reo Māori and English have equal status but only the English name is used for our official Country name. "Aotearoa” is a Māori language name being used for the Country but has no official status yet both names are used together in national documents of identity, currency, national anthem, and by the public. I believe that making “Aotearoa New Zealand” our official name will honour the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, enhance our sense of nationhood, and confirm our uniqueness in the world.
