Petition request

That the House of Representatives require a nationwide referendum before any Government can permanently sell or transfer ownership of publicly owned strategic assets, including State-owned enterprises, electricity assets, rail infrastructure and all public land.

Petition reason

Public assets are funded by New Zealanders and I think should be held for the benefit of current and future generations. When properly managed, I believe these assets can provide ongoing income and value to the country. Although legislation allows elected Governments to sell major public assets in certain circumstances, I think this should change. Governments are elected for limited terms and in my view should not permanently dispose of national assets without public consent.
