Petition request

That the House of Representatives amend the End of Life Choice Act 2019 by removing the words “within 6 months” from section 5(1)(c) and inserting a new subsection providing that people are eligible for assisted dying who suffer from a degenerative disease that will ultimately end their life.

Petition reason

I have knowledge of a person with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, who suffers continuously and is not able to sit up, eat unaided, shower or even go to the toilet. I am aware that she would like to be eligible for assisted dying. I believe this is a right every citizen should have, but because a doctor cannot certify that her illness is terminal, she is not eligible for assisted dying. I believe this is wrong and that the Act should be changed.
