That the House of Representatives initiate an inquiry into the Gore District Council’s decisions at a meeting on 4 August 2026 regarding potential mergers under the Head Start programme.

Petition reason

I believe people have no confidence in the seven representatives who voted to explore a merger under Head Start with Invercargill City Council after unanimously voting to do one with Southland District Council. These seven voted for two Head Start proposals, which I believe ignores a petition saying “No” to a merger with ICC, a GDC survey in which 61 percent of respondents preferred merging with SDC, and a councillor's phone survey indicating 90 percent support for an SDC-only merger.
