Petition request

That the House of Representatives amend the Dog Control Act to require all councils to have clear guidelines to follow after a dog attack, including responses to victims.

Petition reason

I believe dog control laws in New Zealand need amending. I believe many councils have unclear and ineffectual guidelines that leave the victims of dog attacks disregarded, and unsafe dogs to cause further trouble in their communities. I feel there needs to be a nationwide clear mandatory approach for all councils to follow using a stepped process which would give councils clarity and consistency in their practice, leading to an outcome which would support safer communities.
