That the House of Representatives change the law to allow indoor trout farming on land, as long as the fish are 100 percent sterile and tracked using a secure dual-scan database.

Petition reason

I suggest farms would be inside buildings on land to not affect wild trout or pollute rivers, and the trout be sterile triploids so they could never breed with wild fish. My main security idea is a dual-scan tracker: fish get a secure fin-tag scanned at the farm, then scanned again at the shop; fake tags would fail because uninitiated IDs get blocked by the database. I believe this would stop poaching completely and let everyday Kiwis legally buy trout safely.
