That the House of Representatives investigate the creation of a Rainbow subcategory within the New Zealand Refugee Quota Programme.

Petition reason

Rainbow refugees face a very high risk of persecution and often continue to experience persecution in countries of first asylum. Rainbow refugees have identified resettlement to an LGBTIQ-friendly country as their preferred solution, according to a 2021 discussion document prepared by the office of the United National High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). UNHCR recommends States recommit to resettlement and also investigate humanitarian visas and other pathways to resettle LGBTIQ+ refugees.
