That the House of Representatives urge the Government to change the status of ferrets under the Biosecurity Act 1993, to allow desexed and microchipped ferrets to be kept as pets.

Petition reason

In New Zealand ferrets are classified as unwanted organisms, which I think amounts to a ban on people having them as pets. Many animal lovers seek to keep ferrets responsibly. I think that by requiring mandatory desexing, microchipping, and licensing of pet ferrets, New Zealand can permit ferrets as pets, while maintaining biosecurity protection for native wildlife.
