Petition request

That the House of Representatives ask the Government to lower the bowel screening age in New Zealand to 35 to increase early detection of colorectal cancer among younger individuals; and note that 11,568 people have signed a similar online petition.

Petition reason

Recent trends show rising rates of bowel cancer among younger populations. As someone diagnosed with bowel cancer at 32, I have seen the surge in cases of those in their 30s, many I believe facing misdiagnosis or tragic outcomes. In my view, lowering the screening age to 35 would facilitate early detection, potentially saving lives and reducing long-term medical costs. I believe it is time to challenge the notion of bowel cancer as solely an ailment of the elderly and to implement changes.
