That the House of Representatives amend the Privacy Act 2020 to explicitly prohibit companies from selling, trading, or sharing consumer smart appliance and Internet of Things device data with third-party data brokers, and to include a strict 'opt-in' requirement for all telemetry data collection.
Petition reason
Modern household appliances increasingly require internet connectivity and gather data. Currently, this data is heavily commodified and sold to third-party data brokers. This unregulated ecosystem fuels malicious cybercrime, identity theft, and hyper-targeted phishing campaigns.
