Petition request
That the House of Representatives pass a motion to recognise: the legitimacy of the Khalistan movement in New Zealand; the genocide of Sikh communities in the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots; and extrajudicial killings and custodial torture of young Sikhs in Punjab in the 1990s.
Petition reason
I believe there is evidence that India misuses its power on minorities like Sikhs. The Sikh holy shrine at Amritsar was attacked in 1984, and thereafter, I believe, the Indian Government committed a planned genocide of our Sikh community. I think there were multiple cases of extrajudicial killings of innocent Sikhs in Punjab committed by the Indian State Police, along with custodial torture, in the 1990s. To me, India is occupying the Punjab and the Indian Police still treat Sikh youth unjustly.
