Petition request
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to pay a stipend to people while they train in healthcare, education, and social work professions including nurses, doctors, midwives, teachers, social workers, and mental health professionals; and note that 16,331 people have also signed a similar online petition.
Petition reason
In our view, this would address long-term workforce shortages. We believe that trainees who are required to undertake compulsory placements should be paid a stipend to cover their living and course costs. We believe that sustainable workforce development, through paid training, would help to attract and retain people into these much-needed professions.
