That the House of Representatives urge the Government to take urgent action to establish a new nationwide adaptable program for the prevention of family and sexual violence, and to recognise and to include suicides linked to family and sexual abuse with violent deaths in official reporting.

Petition reason

In my view, we have innumerable agencies in New Zealand helping both victims and perpetrators of family and sexual violence at the bottom of the cliff, but we lack any program to prevent the abuse at the top of the cliff. I believe we must stop the introduction of new perpetrators from an early age. I estimate that half of all suicides are from family and sexual violence. I believe the House must take urgent action to reduce these tragic outcomes and prioritise the safety of all New Zealanders.
