That the House of Representatives urge the Government to amend the Healthy Homes Standards to require all new or replacement fixed heaters be reverse-cycle heat pumps capable of cooling, and expand Warmer Kiwi Homes grants and provide zero-interest loans to help landlords and low-income households meet this requirement.

Petition reason

I think that current regulations address winter heating but ignore intensifying summer heat, and that this failure risks health, disrupts sleep, incentivizes inefficient portable ACs, and neglects the realities of a changing climate. In my view, mandating reverse-cycle heat pumps modernizes national infrastructure, lowers energy bills, and improves year-round safety. I believe that meeting our cooling needs is not a luxury, but an achievable necessity.
