That the House of Representatives ensure that shift workers receive an alternative holiday (day in lieu) if a public holiday or a Mondayised public holiday falls on their rostered day off.
Petition reason
NZ faces chronic frontline worker shortages, which I attribute to roster burnout and uncompetitive rules. I think the Holidays Act 2003 creates a glaring inequality: Monday–Friday staff get 12 guaranteed paid holidays, but shift workers can lose a day of rest if a holiday hits their day off. I think this drives people from healthcare and transport. I think that Australia and the UK provide shift workers with better employment protections. I believe NZ must fix this to ensure true holiday equity.
