That the House of Representatives urge the Government to review New Zealand–Russia diplomatic ties, including assessing the strategic value of allowing Russia to maintain an embassy presence in Wellington.
Petition reason
We believe maintaining a reciprocal embassy presence is unjustifiable when bilateral trade has significantly reduced and the Russian state continues its acts of aggression against Ukraine in violation of international law. Furthermore, NZSIS security threat assessments highlight ongoing state-sponsored security threats including hybrid warfare, malicious cyber activity, and disinformation campaigns targeting our democratic institutions. We think a formal review is vital to protect New Zealand.
