That the House of Representatives urgently amend the Land Transport Act 1998 to set a strict, legally enforceable speed limit of 10 km/h for all e-scooters, including rental and private e-scooters, when operating around business shop entrances and high foot-traffic areas.
Petition reason
As a qualified counsellor and social worker, I think it is my duty to represent unheard voices and our vulnerable New Zealanders. In my opinion pedestrians should not feel unsafe, be injured, or potentially killed on our footpaths. I consider that current legislation, like the Land and Transport Act 1998 and the Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004, does not sufficiently protect pedestrians from being injured. I was badly injured after being hit coming out of a dairy by an e-scooter.
