That the House of Representatives ban sunbeds and tanning beds in New Zealand, including their importation, sale, lease, hire, and operation.
Petition reason
New Zealand has one of the highest rates of melanoma and skin cancer in the world. Tanning beds expose people to ultraviolet radiation, a known carcinogen. Research has found that people who first use sunbeds before the age of 35 have an 75% higher risk of developing melanoma. Unlike many cancer risk factors, this exposure is preventable. I believe banning tanning beds would help reduce avoidable harm and protect future generations from preventable skin cancer.
