That the House of Representatives enact legislation requiring mandatory drug testing, comprehensive, real-time digital oversight, and regular psychological fitness-for-duty assessments for all New Zealand Police personnel, particularly for staff in criminal investigation and enforcement roles.
Petition reason
Recent years have seen multiple instances of police staff charged with criminal offences, including the possession of child sexual abuse material. These cases have occurred across different regions and levels of seniority and I think demonstrate systemic failures in internal accountability, monitoring, and risk management. I believe such conduct represents a profound breach of public trust.
