Petition request
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to grant amnesty for Pasifika overstayers, or provide them pathways to residency, which I believe would bring proper closure to the Dawn Raids Apology, in memory of the late HRH Princess Siu'ilikutapu, who officially accepted the apology with a request that immigration needs of the community be addressed.
Petition reason
On 1 August 2021, then-PM Jacinda Ardern offered "a formal and unreserved apology to Pacific communities for the discriminatory implementation of immigration laws that led to the Dawn Raids." In the official response from Pacific peoples, HRH supported "pathways to residency" so that "the vā (relationship) could be better and complete". Since then, HRH endorsed the call for an amnesty for overstayers. This petition was started on the 3rd anniversary of the apology event.
