That the House of Representatives legislate to penalise parents for offences committed by their underage children, including theft, assault, vandalism, and offences relating to the use of scooters or bikes.
Petition reason
In my experience, many members of the public are concerned about unsafe and unlawful behaviour by minors, including dangerous riding around traffic on electric scooters and bikes, assaulting people and stealing vehicles. I believe it is unreasonable for law-abiding drivers or members of the public to be blamed if a child is injured through their own behaviour. I believe parents or legal guardians need to be held accountable under the law where unsafe or criminal behaviour by minors occurs.
