Petition request
That the House of Representatives amend the Sentencing Act 2002 to require a custodial sentence, rather than home detention, for convicted individuals whose drug-impaired actions result in the death of another person; and note that 8,611 people have signed a similar online petition.
Petition reason
Ella-Rose Donker and Madison Chamberlain’s lives were tragically taken by car drivers whose behaviour was affected by drugs. Both of these events should never have happened. Both events have left behind devastated families who are grieving, angry and frustrated. I think the loss of a life warrants a penalty that reflects the seriousness of the offence and provides greater accountability. Ella & Madi’s Law is a campaign pushing to strengthen sentences for drugged drivers who cause fatal crashes.
