Petition request

That the House of Representatives expand the scope of discrimination under section 21 of the Human Rights Act 1993 to include culture, personality type, reputation, other agency opinions or dealings, and occupation as prohibited grounds of discrimination.

Petition reason

I believe it is in breach of the spirit of New Zealand’s human rights obligations to condone any grounds of discrimination simply because they have been omitted from s21 of the Human Rights Act 1993, which to me is an oversight. In my view, the current limitation, which excludes discrimination on any grounds not listed (including occupation, personality type, culture and reputation) is inconsistent with United Nations conventions on human rights that NZ has ratified and must be urgently amended.
