That the House of Representatives urge the Government not to proceed with a notification-only pathway for any agricultural drones, and instead engage with the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand and wider industry on proportionate, risk-based reform that maintains safeguards.
Petition reason
Agricultural drones can exceed 100 kg, travel up to 72 km/h, and carry hazardous chemicals. Loss of control may cause a fatality, serious harm, or loss of property; spray drift can damage land and crops. We believe notification alone does not ensure pilot competence, satisfactory maintenance, or risk management. We support reform, but argue that certification or equivalent assurance must remain until licensing, fast-track approval, or national safety standards are in place.
