Petition request

That the House of Representatives urge the Government to fund and implement a national lung cancer screening programme.

Petition reason

Lung cancer is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading cause of cancer death and disproportionately affects vulnerable communities, in particular Māori and Pacific peoples. We think a national screening programme would improve early detection, decrease mortality and reduce healthcare costs by avoiding expensive late-stage treatment and palliative care. New Zealand lags behind countries which have already established screening programmes including Australia, England, United States, and South Korea.
