Petition request
That the House of Representatives pause the progress of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Amendment Bill until after the Government has undertaken public consultation on the proposed Regulations and Schedule 2-type exclusions; and urge the Government to undertake such consultation.
Petition reason
We consider the development of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Amendment Bill has failed to follow fair process and allow sufficient time for public stakeholders to understand the effects of the proposed amendments on their businesses, livelihoods and the environment. In our view, the bill does not provide vital information on the changes to the way genetically modified tiers would be defined in Regulations and Schedules.
