That the House of Representatives put in place a requirement for captioning by all television and media organisations in New Zealand.

Petition reason

Over eight hundred thousand Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kiwis have inequitable access to media because there is no legal requirement to caption in New Zealand. I believe having legislation to hold media organisations accountable would allow the Deaf community greater access to news, entertainment, and education. I believe that this legislation would fulfill the commitments made by the Government when they signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2008.
