That the House of Representatives phase out incandescent lightbulbs.
Petition reason
LED light bulbs use up to 85% less electricity than traditional incandescent bulbs. I calculate that households can save approximately $300 per year by replacing 15 incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, based on replacing 15 inefficient 75W light bulbs used 3 hours per day with 15 efficient 7W LEDs, with an electricity price of $0.26 / kWhr. If every NZ household installed LED lighting, we’d avoid 45,000 tonnes of GHG emissions each year. Australia and the UK are phasing out incandescent bulbs.
