Petition request
That the House of Representatives pass legislation to regulate the locksmith industry in New Zealand, requiring all practising locksmiths to hold a certificate of approval issued by the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority (PSPLA) and to be members of one of the three locksmith associations operating in NZ.
Petition reason
New Zealand’s locksmith industry currently allows untrained, unqualified, and unlicensed persons to operate. As locksmiths have access to homes, businesses, vehicles, and security systems, we believe regulation is needed to protect the public. We believe that requiring PSPLA approval and membership of one of the three recognised NZ locksmith associations would promote proper training, professional standards, consumer protection and industry accountability.
