Petition request
That the House of Representatives pass legislation to establish a mandatory public register of lobbyists, require proactive disclosure of meetings with Ministers and officials, and implement a "cooling-off" period for former Ministers and senior officials.
Petition reason
NZ lacks a mandatory lobbying register, unlike many OECD countries. I feel a perceived "revolving door" between government and lobbying firms creates integrity risks and undermines public trust, while any hidden meetings between decision-makers and well-funded interests could create an unfair imbalance of influence. In my view, voluntary codes are insufficient, and a statutory framework is required to ensure consistent, mandatory accountability and transparency across the industry.
