Petition request
That the House of Representatives urge the Prime Minister to assess whether the IRGC meets the section 22 criteria of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002, report the assessment outcome and its statutory basis to the House, and, where met, proceed with designation through the statutory process.
Petition reason
The New Zealand government commented on the IRGC designation in 2024. Since then, the IRGC has carried out or participated in acts alleged to meet the definition of a terrorist act under Section 5 of the Terrorism Suppression Act 2002. We believe that events since the 2024 comment, including terrorist attacks in Australia, warrant formal assessment and appropriate action under section 22. We believe this designation would protect New Zealand communities.
