Petition request
That the House of Representatives amend the KiwiSaver Act 2006 to allow New Zealanders who have been receiving a main government benefit continuously for two years or more to make a full or partial withdrawal of their KiwiSaver funds.
Petition reason
I believe the criteria for financial hardship withdrawals are overly bureaucratic and do not recognise that long-term reliance on a benefit is, in my view, a state of severe financial hardship. Living in poverty for multiple years severely impacts a person's health, well-being and survival. I believe it is unjust to lock away savings for a distant retirement when those funds are desperately needed to survive the present, and that Kiwis in long-term hardship should be able to use their own money.
