That the House of Representatives establish independent oversight, monitoring, and investigation, and new enforcement mechanisms for the recognition and implementation of Enduring Powers of Attorney by health, disability and aged-care organisations.
Petition reason
My assessment is that there is an imbalance in accountability under EPOAs, current EPOA safeguards focus on attorney accountability, and no equivalent coordinated national mechanism proactively oversees organisational compliance. OIA responses confirm that no single agency directly monitors individual EPOAs. This petition seeks balanced accountability to protect the rights and interests of vulnerable people.
