That the House of Representatives amend the law to extend to the victims of crime committed by people found to be insane, the same protections and rights as other victims of crime.
Petition reason
I was the victim of an attempted murder in Nelson in which the offender was found to be not guilty by way of insanity. The offender was recently relocated to Nelson without any input from me, as would have occurred under the criminal justice system and Parole Board. The petition is seeking a change so victims of such crimes would have the same protections and rights as other victims of crime such as occurs in jurisdictions like Australia.
