Petition request

That the House of Representatives urge the Government to expel the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran from New Zealand.

Petition reason

In 2024, the Government rejected a similar petition to preserve dialogue and consular access. Since then, Australia expelled Iran’s ambassador after linking Iran to attacks there. In June and October 2026, New Zealand joined statements condemning Iranian state threats overseas. In our view, these developments justify reassessing the earlier decision. We think expelling the ambassador would send a clear message against state-sponsored threats while keeping other diplomatic channels open.
