That the House of Representatives urge the Government to address the invasion of Madagascar Ragwort (Senecio madagascariensis).

Petition reason

Madagascar Ragwort is spreading through Northland farms and if left unchecked poses a severe threat to New Zealand's pastures and livestock. I recommend: 1) a national programme to raise awareness about the consequences of Madagascar Ragwort including control methods, 2) financial assistance for farmers to cover costs of controlling the weed, 3) fast track additional research into biological/herbicide control, and 4) to designate Northland as a controlled area for hay to prevent seed dispersion.
