Petition request
That the House of Representatives halt the rollout of any electronic road user charges (eRUC) system involving vehicle tracking unless an independent privacy assessment has been completed, legal safeguards are in place, and clear public approval has been given through consultation; and note that 39,408 people have signed a similar online petition.
Petition reason
We have serious concerns about the proposed eRUC system, including about privacy, data security, and continuous vehicle tracking. With New Zealand now fully reliant on imported refined fuels and exposed to volatile global pricing, we believe that introducing tracking-based charges without clear public support risks undermining trust, fairness, and public confidence.
